In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past two months, there’s a grassroots movement called Idle No More that’s been gathering steam and garnering attention worldwide. It stands against Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s omnibus budget bill C-45 and the changes therein which affect the environment, streamline resource development, and make it easier to lease reserve lands. It has grown beyond native concerns and found supporters across the world from all walks of life. Last Friday, over 1000 people gathered at Queen’s Park in Toronto. It was part of a global day of action with similar events happening in dozens of cities all over the world. It was a peaceful display that demonstrated how powerful the movement is becoming.
