I’m Writing A Travel Memoir About The Maritimes

Posted on Updated on

Travel changes you; this much I know for sure, and I had such a profound experience with my three weeks in the maritimes that I feel compelled to write a book about it. The idea of writing a travel memoir occurred to me early in my trip, and now that it’s all behind me and I’ve accumulated a wealth of memories and insights, I feel as though I have the foundations of a great book within me waiting to materialize.

The overarching theme of the book is the pursuit of happiness. It’s about breaking out of a rut and finding not only yourself on the open road, but a new kind of love that you never knew existed. It’s about how everywhere you go you leave a small piece of your heart, but your heart grows back larger and stronger than ever. It’s about how when we separate from the familiar and challenge ourselves with new experiences we grow and discover new aspects about ourselves; we become deeper, more worldly people. It’s about how travelling connects us with new people who surprise, excite, and intrigue us, and we grow further in these new connections.

When this book is complete, it will be available in ebook form. I’ll be self publishing, of course, because the whole process of finding a publisher and an agent in this industry is maddening, and I don’t want to give up any creative direction. I know this is going to be a great book and I can’t abide being at the whims of a floundering publishing industry. As far as the timeline is concerned, well, you can’t rush great art so bear with me. Rest assured though, this project is at the top of my mind right now. In the future I may post a few excerpts as I complete the chapters. Stay tuned….
